Privacy Policy

This page documents what data the NHL Goal Predictor dashboard collects, how it is used, and your rights as a visitor. The dashboard is a personal project hosted on GitHub Pages and is provided free of charge.

Information we do not collect

The NHL Goal Predictor does not have user accounts, login forms, comments, contact forms, newsletters, or any input fields that store user-submitted data on our servers. We do not maintain a database of visitors or their activity.

What we do collect — automatic logs

Standard web request logs (IP address, user agent, referring URL, timestamp) are recorded by GitHub Pages when you load the site. These logs are kept by GitHub and used for security and infrastructure operation. We do not directly access these logs.

Third-party services

Google Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics (GA4) to understand aggregate traffic patterns — total page views, country-level geography, device type, etc. GA4 sets cookies in your browser to distinguish unique visitors. We do not see individual user identities.

Google AdSense

The site may display advertisements served by Google AdSense in order to help offset hosting and data-API costs. AdSense uses cookies and similar technologies to deliver relevant ads. The data collected by AdSense includes:

• Pages you visit on this site
• General location (country/region) inferred from your IP
• Browser, device type, and operating system
• Interactions with ads (impressions, clicks)

You can read Google's privacy practices at policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out of personalised advertising at google.com/settings/ads.

NHL API

The dashboard fetches public game and player data from the NHL's public API endpoints (api-web.nhle.com). These requests originate from your browser, so the NHL's servers see your IP address. We do not control or share what the NHL does with these requests.

Cookies and consent

Consent is managed by Google Funding Choices, Google's IAB-TCF v2 compliant Consent Management Platform. If you visit from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, Google Funding Choices will display a consent banner letting you accept or reject:

• Personalised advertising: tailored ads based on your activity across Google's network.
• Non-personalised advertising: contextual ads based only on the page you're viewing, no personal profile required.

The categories of cookies that may be set (only after consent, where applicable):

• Analytics: Google Analytics cookies (named _ga, _gid, etc.) — used to count visitors and understand site usage in aggregate.
• Advertising: Google AdSense cookies (named __gads, __gpi, etc.) — used for ad delivery, frequency capping, and (with consent) personalisation.
• Consent: Funding Choices stores your consent choice in cookies so we don't show the banner on every visit.

You can change or revoke your consent at any time by clicking the floating "Privacy options" link Funding Choices adds to the page (after you've made an initial choice).

Your rights

Depending on your location (notably under GDPR for EEA/UK residents and CCPA for California residents), you may have the right to:

• Withdraw consent for advertising cookies at any time (clear your browser cookies for this site, then choose "Reject" when the consent banner reappears).
• Request information about what Google holds about you — contact Google directly via the links above.
• Block any of these scripts using browser-level controls (e.g. uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger). The dashboard's core functionality (predictions, picks, charts) does not depend on advertising or analytics scripts.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated to reflect changes in the services we use or applicable law. The "last updated" date below indicates the most recent revision.
